On the 4th and the 5th of October, Alan Devine came into our school to do a public speaking workshop with us. My class did the workshop on the 4th while the other class did it on the 5th.
He explained to us to how important public speaking was and how its a valuable skill to have. He explained to us how we should have energy and attitude when were speaking to a group of people. He showed the mistakes people make when their taking in front of people such twisty legs and looking at the ground.
He got us to do 3 activities, the first was where we had to walk out from a chair and say a joke, this was to teach a way to start a speech. The second activity was where we had to stand up in front of the class and stare at each individual person, this was an example of how to keep the audience interested in your speech. The last activity was where we were given a word and we had to describe it to the audience, this was a practise for the speech we will have to do on the 13th when Alan comes back.
We had to prepare a speech for Alan for when he came back on Friday the 13th. I did my speech on exercise. I got everyone to do 10 seconds of exercise, I then went on to talk about our addiction to technology and how it affects us. I finished off by giving people advice about exercise.
Thanks to Alan, I feel a lot more confident about public speaking and fear isn't a big factor any more
